Tuesday, July 16:

Today we wanted to share a few videos with you! As some of our staff members arrived to the school today, we were greeted with the beautiful voices of some of our vocalists rehearsing before class. We cannot wait to see how their final pieces evolve.

Meanwhile, our Creative Performance class also took place led by Jack Zerbe. This is a class where the program's vocalists and actors receive instruction in presentation of their artistic crafts. The lesson today focused on the authenticity of ones' performance, and he encouraged students to be keenly aware of where and how they focus their attention to their intended target (the audience). He emphasized the significance of transmitting their attention and energy to others and away from themselves. Students implemented these ideas in several group activities and warm ups.

Students also took time this class period to discuss how serious performers learn to be aware of the world around them. To facilitate this, they engaged in another activity to explore the importance of the five senses to the actor. Students were encouraged to explore several foreign areas without the sense of sight. Jack revealed to participants that successful performers need to lower their shields and open their senses.

Tomorrow our regular class schedule temporarily breaks as we embark on our second excursion to Siena. We are so looking forward to the day trip!

Sincerely,
The Spoleto Study Abroad Staff
