Student Disciplines Update: Vocals and Visual Arts

In addition to sharing some pictures from our beach trip yesterday, the staff also wanted to share some updates on two of the program's academic disciplines. They are all diligently back in class today after yesterday's beach excursion (see previous post) and looking forward to the faculty performances this evening!

Vocal and Choral Rehearsals:

In choir and voice, students have been addressing the process to an organic production of sound with instructor Nicole Sonbert.  They are discovering a better, complete understanding of diaphragmatic breathing, resonance, and articulation.  Specifically in voice, performers are working to feel the physiological processes of singing, striving for an amalgamation of the cognitive, kinesthetic, and visual.  Choir and voice students are given a better understanding, daily, as to the structure and process of learning music and preparing their voices.

The following pieces will ultimately be performed by the choir at the conclusion of the program:

"Dona Nobis Pacem", Latin Hymn

"Bella Donna"

"Pie Jesu", Andrew Lloyd Webber, arr. By John Leavitt

"Dominie Deus", J.S. Bach, arr. By Doreen Rao

"Gloria Tibi from Mass", Leonard Bernstein

"Shine on Me", Traditional Spiritual, arr. By Rollo Dilworth

Visual Arts

Our visual arts students have been hard at work completing two projects assigned. With the help of instructor Raúl Miyar, students are creating self-portraits as well as projects representative of the individual’s personal experience of Spoleto.  Both assignments must be developed from direct observation; please enjoy some pictures of our artists at work!
